Ideal sowing temp: 18-22C
Position: Open & sunny once matured.
Sowing: 7mm deep. Cover very lightly with soil. Warm, shaded or semi-shaded position while sprouting.
Care: Keep moist but NOT wet.
Sprouting: 25-50 days.
Native to Southern China. Small, compact, hardy, evergreen, slow-growing shrub perfect for sunny locations. Keeps a neat, rounded shape naturally, without the need for pruning. The shrub looks great year-round and is easy to care for. Large, loose clusters of fragrant, pink or white flowers bloom in Spring, followed by small blue berries that attract wildlife. Will tolerate most soils including salty/saline spots. If planting in heavy clay or sand, turn some compost through the soil first. Drought tolerant. Will tolerate shade but may lose its’ neat shape and become straggly out of full sun. Avoid wetting the leaves when watering as it is prone to leaf spot and mildew.
Great for hedging, patios, decks, containers and balconies. Popular for bonsai.
WARNING: regarded as an environmental weed in Queensland.
