A fast-growing Eucalypt to 30m high. Native to a small area of frost hollows in Tasmania and is a threatened species. Prefers a light to heavy well-drained soil in an open sunny position (doesn’t like shade at all), frost resistant but drought tender. Young leaves are rounded, waxy and blue in colour, and the leaves become elongated as the tree matures with white flowers appearing in summer. It can be pruned to use as a shrub or hedge.
Produces a sap similar to Maple syrup by cutting into the trunk. The sap once bottled and capped, may be fermented and produces an alcoholic drink similar to cider. The fresh sap can also be used as syrup.
