Doryanthes Excelsa 'Gymea lily'-FLOWER-25 seeds
Ideal sowing temp: 18-22C (Avoid the coldest and hottest temps).
Position: Open & sunny, well-drained, deep soil.
Preparation: Soak in lukewarm water overnight before sowing.
Sowing: 3-5mm deep. Warm, sheltered position while sprouting.
Care: Water with fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed
Sprouting: 21-40 days (@18-22C).
Endemic to coastal areas near Sydney, with leaves up to 1m long x 100mm wide. The flowers that appear generally in Spring are bright red, up to 100mm in a compact head approx. 300mm in diameter, which perches atop a 2-4m high stalk.
This one needs lots of room to grow and prefers a well-drained deep site with plenty of water, in full sun or part shade. Although the seeds usually germinate readily, the plants may not provide blooms for around 8 years after sowing. Once they do though, the wait is spectacularly worth it. The foliage is frost-resistant but the flowers are usually not so protection for the flower-heads may be necessary in cold climates.
****Please note: these are seeds (we are NOT selling these as live plants. Quarantine restrictions and costs prohibit us from selling these seeds to WA, Tas, and Internationally.
