DIETES GRANDIFLORA
“Wild Iris”
Native to South Africa, this perennial grows to a beautiful display of white flowers marked with yellow and violet amongst narrow, erect, sw0rd-shaped green leaves.
An extremely hardy plant that requires little care, it prefers a light to medium well-drained soil in an open sunny position. Ideal for mass planting, it is also drought and frost resistant.
TO GROW:
Ideal sowing temp: 15-20C
Position: Sunny
Sowing: Sow the seeds on top of a well-drained mix, cover slightly, water, and keep them above 10C.
Sprouting: 18-21 days.
General note: Seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination. Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded”. Growing information retrieved from Australian Seed (online) 11 March 2020
