Citrus Australasica-Finger Lime-BUSH TUCKA-5 seeds
Ideal sowing temp: 22-35C.
Position: Full sun to light shade.
Preparation: Soak seeds in water overnight before sowing to allow them to hydrate fully. If you can manage, it is preferable to peel the outer skin from the seeds for better and faster germination, but this can be tricky without a microscope and tweezers.
Sowing: 1mm deep. Cover very lightly with soil. Warm, shaded or semi-shaded position while sprouting.
Care: Keep moist with fine mist spray.
Sprouting: 14-28 days.
Thorny, lowland shrub or tree to 7m. Native to rainforests of northern NSW and SE QLD. Easy to care for and drought hardy once established. Once grown, plants like a position in full sun to part shade with adequate moisture and regular fertiliser, just like normal Citrus. Keep them pruned to a manageable size.
Prized for their unusual looking finger shaped fruit which contain tiny juicy, pearls, they are becoming very popular throughout Australia for their flavoursome taste and range of varieties. May be used to add flavour to sweets and savoury dishes as well as drinks or salads. Marmalade and pickles may also made from these acidic, lime-like fruits while the skin may be dried and used as a spice.
