Also known as Water vine.
A fast growing, tough, reliable, and tasty bush tucker vine to 5m x 6m, found in rainforest areas all over the east coast of Australia, climbs by means of clinging tendrils so it is self-supporting. It can be very vigorous but is easily maintained by pruning. Long lived and fast growing. Can be trimmed right back in spring if it gets too big. An easy to grow plant that does not require special attention. Tolerates shade well. Also tolerates light frost and may be grown indoors or outdoors.
The bright green leaves can form a dense screen and are followed by bright copper-coloured new growth in spring. Creamy coloured flowers, followed by large edible berries.
Larger vines yield fresh water when cut, hence the name ‘water vine’. The 15mm purplish/black berries may be eaten raw or stewed.

Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
