Ideal sowing temp: 18-22C
Position: Sunny
Preparation: Soak in boiling water for 30 seconds and then in lukewarm water overnight. Re-treat any seeds that have not swollen before sowing.
Sowing: 5mm deep. Warm, shaded or semi-shaded; Well Drained.
Care: Keep moist but not wet. Do not allow soil to dry out completely.
Sprouting: 10-21 days.
Native to a small area of SE QLD Queensland, this small, attractive tree is adaptable to most soils and conditions in temperate or subtropical climates, drought and frost tolerant to -6C.
With a shapely trunk and large-lobed leaves, it develops clusters of pink to red star-shaped flowers direct from the branches during late winter and spring. These are followed by the familiar boat-shaped seed pods that Brachychiton species is known for.
