“Weeping Myall”
Family: Mimosaceae.
Ideal sowing temp: 18-22C (Avoid the coldest and hottest temps).
Position: Open & sunny once matured.
Preparation: Place the seed in a container and pour in just boiled water and allow to soak overnight. The swollen seed can then be sown, re-treat seeds that have not swollen.
Sowing: Sow the depth of seed keep warm & moist but not wet.
Care: Water with fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed.
Sprouting: 10-21 days.
Small, weeping Acacia to 12m, with silvery leaves and dark-grey bark. Endemic to Northern Victoria, New South Wales and Southern Queensland. Flowers during spring with 2-4 rounded golden heads, followed by distinctive flat pods, 4-8cm long by 1-2cm wide. Now a priority species for ecological restoration across its range.
Prefers a slightly fertile, well-drained sandy soils in full sun and partial shade, although it is tolerant of heavy soils, waterlogged sites, and even occasional flooding. Moderately frost and wind resistant with a good drought tolerance, it makes a great street and park tree.
