Salvia Apiana “White Sage” is native to north-western Mexico and Southern California. It is an evergreen perennial shrub used as a ceremonial herb for the ancient Native American tradition of Smudging. Smudging involves burning the dried leaves of White Sage to cleanse the spirit, purifying a space or person of unwanted or negative energies, and welcoming positive thoughts instead. It can also be used as a culinary spice, with a flavour like garden sage.

Salvia Apiana “White Sage” is a perennial, drought and frost resistant plant to 1m x 1m. It prefers dry, well drained, light soils, in an open sunny position and has clusters of lavender to white flowers from spring to summer, with a naturally low germination rate (usually 5-10%). Germination can be slow, (up to 60 days in total).

Preparation: As a tea: 1 tsp per cup, steep covered 10 minutes. For smudging: Place loose leaves on a saucer to burn, or burn sticks as is.

Caution: Do not use during pregnancy or lactation, as it may reduce milk production.

TO GROW:

Sow seeds in a plastic 8 inch diameter pot with potting mix and cover only 6-8mm.  Keep constantly moist outside, and never let the surface dry out. Seeds should be spaced about 6-8mm inch apart, and only expect 10-50% germination. Within 30 days, you should see seedlings about 1/2 inch tall and 2 inches wide.

Please note:  Salvia Apiana has been know to have a germination rate of between only 10% - 50%.  Sadly, this means that if you purchase 25 seeds, you might only get 2 - 13 sprouts.  If you purchase 100 seeds, you might only get 10 - 50 sprouts up.  This is nature and not anything to do with the quality or viability of our seeds.  We are constantly looking for information that will improve this rate and will update you here as we find it.
*****Please note:   These are seeds and NOT plants.   Quarantine restrictions and inspection fees prohibit the sale of these seeds by us to Western Australia, Tasmania and Internationally.

White sage seeds

I brought white sage seeds from this store.
It is winter where I am so I can’t plant them outdoors and I’m not sure if I can plant them indoors/how to care for them indoors.
So all I can say right now is - I brought 2 packets of white sage seeds and I received 2 packets of white sage seeds. They weren’t expensive, I got to keep my arm, leg, soul and first born unlike those other unlucky people who buy seeds elsewhere. I appreciate the reasonable prices through The Chakra Garden.
I received them a day early which was actually really nice - I was crying the day I received them because I’m in my late 20s unmarried and alone so it was nice little surprise.

I placed my order late at night, I can’t remember what time but sometime after 9pm and the order was confirmed and shipped the next day.
The Chakra Garden is also Australian so that’s a bonus.
