LOMANDRA HYSTRIX

“Creek-Mat Rush”

Sowing time:  Warmer weather (20-30C). 

Preparation: Soak seeds in near-boiling water for 24 hours.

Sow: Scatter over firmly packed potting mix in a standard seed tray.

Care: Cover with a thin layer of vermiculite. Kept moist.  Protect the trays from m1ce. 

Sprout:  4-6 weeks

Will grow almost anywhere and is much better suited to wetter and more humid locations than Lomandra Longifolia is.  It grows to about 1m and is great for feature planting, mass planting, erosion control, filling large spaces in the garden streetscapes, parks, large gardens, pots, and for suppressing weeds.  With long, sharp spikes, Lomandra sp. may not be your first choice around ch1ldren and pets.  Almost no maintenance required and looks fabulous with it’s lime green sturdy, strappy leaves and golden flowers in warmer months.

General note: Seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination. Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded”.
