One of the first Australian plants introduced to England. It is fairly reliable in a range of well-drained soils and easily adapts to climates ranging from temperate to tropical. Able to tolerate extended dry conditions once established, it will grow successfully in full sun or semi shaded positions. The pods do not shed the seed until stimulated to do so by environmental conditions (eg after a bushfire) and it is actually easier to grow from seed than it is to grow from cutting, usually requiring no pre-treatment.
