Ideal sowing temp: 18-22C.
Position: Full sun, free draining.
Sowing: On surface. Cover very lightly with soil. Warm, shaded or semi-shaded position while sprouting.
Care: Water with fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed.
Sprouting: 10-50 days.
Hardy, fast-growing, perennial native grass to 1m. Found throughout NSW, NT, QLD, and VIC, often in Eucalyptus wetlands. Prefers free-draining soil but will tolerate even the poorest soils and is often used for rehabilitation of degraded sites, roadside vegetation, and in new housing estates for erosion control. A habitat for small m@mm@ls and fr0gs. Often used as an alternative to Themeda Triandra.
The seeds are eaten by r0sellas. Drought tolerant but sensitive to frost. Edible seeds that resemble barbed wire have a lemon fragrance when crushed.
