“Barbed Wire Grass”

Family: Poaceae

Ideal sowing temp: 18-22C.

Position:  Full sun, free draining.

Sowing: On surface.  Cover very lightly with soil. Warm, shaded or semi-shaded position while sprouting.

Care:  Water with fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed.

Sprouting: 10-50 days.

Hardy, fast-growing, perennial native grass to 1m. Found throughout NSW, NT, QLD, and VIC, often in Eucalyptus wetlands.  Prefers free-draining soil but will tolerate even the poorest soils and is often used for rehabilitation of degraded sites, roadside vegetation, and in new housing estates for erosion control. A habitat for small m@mm@ls and fr0gs. Often used as an alternative to Themeda Triandra.

The seeds are eaten by r0sellas. Drought tolerant but sensitive to frost. Edible seeds that resemble barbed wire have a lemon fragrance when crushed.

The Chakra Garden cannot take any responsibility for any adverse effects from the use of plants.

Always seek advice from a professional before eating or using a plant medicinally.

****Please note: these are seeds (we are NOT selling these as live plants). Quarantine restrictions and costs prohibit us from selling these seeds to WA, Tas, and Internationally.
