Family: Protaceae.
Ideal sowing temp: 18-22C.
Position: Open & sunny, well-drained.
Preparation: Smoke infusion can be used for Proteaceae, although this species does germinate without it.
Sowing: 1mm deep in well-draining medium. Cover very lightly with vermiculite.
Care: Water with fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed. Keep moist but NOT wet.
Sprouting: 21-60 days.
Also known as ‘Hill Banksia’. Native to New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
A thick shrub to 1.5m high with grey-green, often serrated foliage and yellow or orange flower spikes appearing in Autumn & Winter. The spikes are approx. 75-100mm wide and up to 450mm long.
Drought and frost resistant and very hardy. Does not like being waterlogged.
Attracts birds and butterflies. Good for Bonsai, gardens, and large pots.
