Ideal sowing temp: 20-25°C but tolerates higher temperatures if watered adequately.
Position: Sunny
Sowing: Surface sow, cover lightly with gravel.
Care: Keep moist but not wet.
Sprouting: 7-35 days.
Short-lived (2-3 years) biennial grass that stands at 10-50cms high when mature. It likes spring rains to promote growth and is found in every state except Northern Territory.
Preferring to be sown at a depth below 25mm, they do not like to be pushed below 35cm. While it is known to be susceptible to frosts, it will grow in a range of soil types and colonise well. Applications of ph0sph@te (50 kg/ha) and su1fur (10 kg/ha) can significantly increase seed yield according to NSW Dpt of Primary Industries. Stored seeds are viable for a lengthy 12-30 months and normal rates are 30-40%.
