Ideal sowing temp: 18-25C (Avoid the coldest and hottest temps).
Position: Sunny.
Sowing: 1mm deep. Cover very lightly with soil. Warm, shaded or semi-shaded position while sprouting.
Care: Water with fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed.
Sprouting: 10-20 days.
Other common names include Bulbine Lily, Golden Lily, Leek Lily, Wild Onion, and Yellow Onion Weed.
Perennial herb to 75cm. It has grey-green leaves and bright yellow flowers. Most common throughout temperate Australia from central Queensland to Tasmania and South Australia. Growing in a variety of habitats including red gum woodland and dry sclerophyll forests, it is common in grasslands and rock crevices. It mainly flowers through Spring and Summer although cultivated plants tend to have longer flowering periods. With fragrant, attractive flowers, it is popular for rockeries, cottage gardens and as a container plant.
Regarded as the sweetest of the lily plants. The corms may be roasted and eaten all year round.
